I Am a Bridge of Positivity

August 23rd, 2010

With all of the news of what’s negative around us world-wide, why not becomes a change agent of positivity?  This is a choice – to go with the mainstream flow of negativity highlighted in the news or to become a beacon of hope. I had the experience last week of going into our local Kinko’s to fax several documents. The sales clerk there was a woman with the most beautiful smile and engaging personality.  My son of college age accompanied me since these documents were on their way to his university for the upcoming registration week.  She inquired of his first year experience in college, as well as to his area of study.  She took time to brighten our day and that is exactly what she did!  Her name was Rose and where are the roses of our world? Can we inspire and bring fragrance to the experience of those we encounter throughout the day?  Here is a brief poem by Rumi: “Make me sweet again, fragrant and fresh and wild, and thankful for any small gesture.” On a day filled with deadlines and the accompanying stress, Rose offered a small gesture to my son and me that indeed did make us feel sweet again.  Thank you, Rose, for being a bridge of positivity!

As a symbol of my commitment to be a bridge of positivity, I have placed a visual image of a bridge, located in a lush green wooded area, on the screensaver of my laptop.  I am grounding this affirmation – I am a bridge of positivity – in order that I might embody myself toward that end every day.  It’s quite simple really!  Open my laptop, view my screen saver, repeat my affirmation out loud, and ask myself for a concrete way of doing this each day.  My first act is writing this blog article and extending an invitation to you (our reader) to become a bridge of positivity, too.

Vitality

June 28th, 2010

This word keeps popping into my mind – vitality.  I am intrigued by the level of energy that the word carries, so I decided to consult the dictionary to see what I would find.  Vitality is defined as “the capacity to live, to grow, or develop”.  The synonyms that I found for vitality are vigor or energy.  When I think of one’s vitality, I picture the life force pulsing through one’s body.  It is interesting how certain individuals are vibrantly alive and make a big splash; whereas, others kind of float through life trying not to make waves.   What kind of individual are you?  Are you satisfied with the kind of impact you are making in your own life or in the lives of others?

Did you ever consider what influences your level of vitality?  Actually, there are a multitude of choices that have the ability to either support or weaken one’s life vigor.  Let’s focus in on three of those aspects: food, thoughts, and physical activity.  The emphasis here is on being conscious about the food one eats, the thoughts one thinks, and the physical activity that one does. All three of these processes affect one’s capacity to live, to grow, and to develop as a healthy and happy human being. (Read more…)

Brain Synchrony: Unity of Mind, Body and Spirit

June 1st, 2010

From the field of neuroscience, comes the belief that the human brain likes and does best when given direction.  The word for this direction, flow, and internal humming is “synchrony”.  Mindbody Visions is a website dedicated to helping others better achieve brain synchrony through developing concrete life plans addressed in the areas of mind, body, and spirit.  This interplay has gained popularity through the mission of holistic or integrative medicine which asserts that we, human beings, are not separate and distinct segments.  Rather, there is an overlap in which one aspect leads into the other. If any one area becomes the sole focus without attention to the other two, a gap surfaces within the total person.  It’s kind of like walking lop-sided….off balance.
